Just Jiu Jitsu

The first time you spar with an opponent it can feel as if you’re being swept up in a tornado of limbs, then immediately dropped into a choke or joint lock. To the uninitiated, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can look chaotic and unpredictable. However, if you spend a little time studying Jiu Jitsu it quickly becomes apparent that what once seemed random and spontaneous is actually a carefully crafted system that has been tested over the years to be ruthlessly efficient. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an ever evolving art that brings order to chaotic combat situations through techniques which rely on concepts that are tested on a daily basis in Jiu Jitsu schools around the world. Through a scientific process, theories are constantly put to the test on the mats. If they are effective, they are incorporated into practitioners’ toolkits. If they don’t work, they are discarded. The result is a martial art that is able to adapt to nearly any situation, no matter how chaotic.

This podcast was born out of the desire to create a show that promotes discussions on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu concepts, techniques, and history.  The tour guides on this journey are Kroyler Gracie, a Black Belt forged in the mountains of Brazil who has been studying the art since he was a young child, and Andrew Desimone, an expendable blue belt with very little to offer except maybe a good question every once in a while.  Just Jiu Jitsu aims to explore all aspects of Jiu Jitsu while increasing practitioners’ appreciation and application of the art on and off the mat.
